Established in 1808 as a resting place for weary travelers  to rest up before making the difficult journey up into the mountains, the Travelers Rest City Council adopted a “downtown revitalization plan” in 2006 . The execution of this plan, along with the popularity of the Swamp Rabbit Trail — connecting bikers and runners alike to downtown Greenville, SC — have been key in helping Travelers Rest become what Budget Travel voters have twice named as “One of America’s Coolest Small Towns.”

In addition to its beautiful mountain views and temperate climate, Travelers Rest is home to many local restaurants, interesting shops, and Furman University.
